Irish weather: Storm Irene to bather Ireland tonight with heavy rainfall

The good weather is expected to hit Ireland on Wednesday, but it looks like we have to get through Storm Irene first.

According to BBC weather forecaster, Barra Best, Storm Irene is making its way from Portugal and will hit the Ireland this afternoon.

They took to Twitter and shared a video that shows the severity of the storm - which looks pretty nasty, RSVP Live reports.

Barra Best said: "Stormy this evening - watch out for possible flying branches.

"The Portuguese Met service has named the system #StormIrene."

Met Éireann are predicting that the weather will be: "Wet and very windy tonight with persistent and at times heavy rain, in strong to gale force and gusty southerly winds with some gusts of 90 or 100km/h in exposed places.

"Overnight lows of 9 or 10 degrees Celsius."

The good news is that it will clear up and we are set to be hit with a 1,500 mile wide 'African air plume' from North Africa which will move across Southern Europe until it reaches the UK and Ireland later this week.

Now a weather chart from WX Charts has shown exactly when and where the hot sizzling heat will hit Ireland most.

Latest weather models show a band of hot African air forecasters have described as a “blowtorch” engulfing Europe and the UK from the south that will blow towards Ireland.

The latest weather maps show that the east coast of Ireland will be hit with the area hit with the warmest weather from Wednesday.

At the moment, Met Eireann forecasts that Thursday will be mostly dry and bright with lighter winds and temperatures reaching up to 18 degrees.

While Friday could see a few light showers but will be manly dry and bright in most parts of the country, while Saturday will be largely dry and bright.
