The 47-year-old English pilot who died in Sunday’s plane crash in Clonbologue, Co Offaly has been named as Neil Bowditch.

An online fundraising campaign has raised more than €17,000 for their families.

The GoFundMe page, set up yesterday by Allaiouti Hassan, asks people to help the families of Kacper and Mr Bowditch, who was known as Billy at the Irish Parachute Club.

"We are heartbroken by the loss of two cherished members of our family at the Irish Parachute Club, little Kacper, son of our dear friend and fellow skydiver Kris, and Billy, a true gentlemen and a thoughtful and great pilot," Mr Hassan said.

"This is a difficult time for us all. I know that our skydiving family and the wider community want to co me together and do what we can to support the families affected by this tragic accident.

"Let's show these families what they mean to us all," he added.

Kacper was a first class pupil at Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa Íosa in Huntstown, west Dublin.

In an online posting on the school's website today, principal Kieran Lyons described him as "a happy, smiling young boy, always enthusiastic and interested in learning. He had a great bond with his peers and was a very good friend".

He went on to say the school community was "shocked and saddened" to learn of the Kacper's death and he "will be remembered and greatly missed in our school by pupils and staff alike".

Mr Lyons also said the school had implemented its critical incident management plan to provide support for staff, pupils and parents in dealing with the tragedy.

The school said it had been contact with Kacper's parents to offer the m help and support and that the community's "thoughts and prayers are with his family at this most difficult of times".
