Family of four killed tragically in horror crash in New Ross, Co Wexford named locally

The family of four killed in a horror road crash in Co Wexfordhave been named locally.

The couple and their two sons have been named locally as Doug and Lily Alexander, both in their 70s, and their sons Doug Junior and Stephen, both in their 40s.

It is understood the driver attempted to make a u-turn when the collision occured.

The crash happened on the N25 on Monday at the New Ross to Ballinaboule road, around two or three miles from Ballinaboule.

The family, who lived in the US, had arrived into Shannon Airport just hours before the crash.

They had travelled here for a relatives funeral, due to take place this morning, and were on their way to the wake when tragedy struck.

The lorry driver and passenger, who were a lso involved in the collision, escaped without injury.

The cause of the crash is not yet known and gardai said conditions on the road were good at the time of the accident.

The route was closed by crash investigators and is set to remain shut until this afternoon.

Locals have reacted with shock to the tragedy.

Another said: “So sad RIP. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones and the truck driver at this sad time.”

Last month, two people died following a crash on the N25 between Wexford and Waterford.

Sylvester and Ann Dempsey died instantly when their Renault Clio car smashed with an on-coming SUV.

And in September, US tourists James Baker, 62, from Columbia, Indiana, and Peggy Sue Ad ams 59, from Ohio, were killed in Cork on the fourth day of their Irish holiday.
