Irish weather: THREE warnings issued for Ireland as Met Eireann forecast 100km/h winds and 50mm of rain

Ireland will be hit by a spate of miserable weather today including gale force winds and heavy rainfall.

Met Eireann have issued three separate weather warnings which affect much of the south east of the country.

Two Status Yellow rainfall alerts are already in place, while a third for wind comes into force at 8am.

Here's a full rundown which areas will be affected and for how long:

  • Status Yellow rain warning for Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary

Tuesday 9pm until Wednesday 3pm

"Periods of heavy rain overnight and on Wednesday will lead to accumulations of 40 to 50mm generally, with some larger amounts on higher ground. Some localised flooding expected."

  • Status Yellow rain warning for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford

Wednesday 3am until Wednesday 11.59pm

"Periods of heavy rain overnight and on Wednesday will lead to accumulations of 30 to 50mm generally, with some larger amounts on higher ground. Some localised flooding expected."

  • Status Yellow wind warning for all of Leinster, plus counties Cork Tipperary and Waterford

Wednesday 8am until Wednesday 6pm

"Southeast winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h with gusts between 90 and 100km/h. Winds strongest along southern areas at first but gradually extending to all parts of Leinster by late morning and afternoon."

Today's overall weather is expected to be wet and windy with mild temperatures.

In a post on their website, Met Eireann said: "The rain will be very heavy and possibly thundery at times, in parts of Munster and south Leinster with some localized flooding.

"The rain will turn more showery in the southwest by evening. Top temperatures 8C to 11C, in strong and gusty southeasterly winds.

"Rain will clear northeastwards tonight, but will persist in northern and northeastern counties through the night.

"Becoming drier elsewhere with winds easing, but there will be some showers in the south. Misty in places also. Overnight lows of 5C to 8C."
