Bathing ban at Clare's Whitestrand beach due to increased e-coli levels
Increased levels of the bacteria e-coli has lead to a temporary bathing ban being put in place at Whitestrand beach at Doonbeg, Co Clare.
Clare County Council said the ban was imposed after advice from the HSE, when elevated levels of the bacteria were found in the sea water there following heavy rainfall on Sunday night and Monday.
Public bathing notices indicating that swimming is prohibited at the location have now been put in place, and the council is carrying out an investigation into the origins of the bacteria, and what caused the elevated levels.
Water tests from today and again tomorrow will be monitored, and the council says it is hoped the ban can be lifted by the weekend once the HSE advises the water has returned to safe bathing water quality limits.
None of the other designated bathing water areas in Clare are affected.Source: Google News
