Answer honestly now: When was the last time you thought about border problems in the Balkans; Poland's anxiety about Russian aggression; or even Italy and Greece being overrun by migrants?

Few of us are indifferent to these issue s. Those of us who get to travel a bit, talk to people in other places, and keep an eye on the foreign pages, may know a bit more about these matters which periodically tweak our consciences and make us think. But the day-to-day reality is that all nations and communities have their own troubles, and in a busy world, it is sometimes hard to find empathy for too many others.

Brutal but true.
