RTÉ have invited experienced singers and songwriters to submit entries to represent Ireland at next year's Eurovision.

Ryan O'Shaughnessy represented Ireland this year with song 'Together' which saw us reach the final for the first time in five years.

He would go on to come 16th in a fiercely competitive final, Ireland's best result at the competition in seven years - and fifth best result since the turn of the millenium.

The song and act made headlines around the world - from SBS in Australia to NBC in the US - after the Chinese broadcaster of the contest censored the performance due to its depiction of a gay romance by dancers Alan McGrath and Kevin O'Dywer.

RTÉ has stated a preference for performers with a proven track record of success in the music industry, given the increasingly high standard at the contest in recent years.

Executive Producer and Head of Irish Delegation Michael Kealy said: "For the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 we want to produce a world-class act that will do Ireland proud on stage in Tel Aviv and in front of a worldwide audience of nearly 200 million people. The Eurovision Song Contest is incredibly competitive so we need a top class song, with instant appeal and a highly experienced act who is used to performing live in front of large audiences."

The song must abide by Eurovision rules - most notab ly it cannot be more than three minutes in length and can't have been released or publicly performed anywhere (including social media) before September 1st 2018. The full list of song rules is available on the Eurovision website.

Interested acts have until Friday, November 23rd to submit their entry as an MP3 via Email to Eurovision2019@rte.ie - physical entries such as CD or cassette will not be accepted.

The 64th Eurovision will take place in Tel Aviv in Israel next May, after Netta stormed to victory in Lisbon this year with song 'Toy' in front of 189m TV viewers.
