Ruddock to captain changed-up Ireland in Chicago

Rhys Ruddock captains Ireland for their autumn Test against Italy in Chicago on Saturday evening.

Two years after pulling off a historic slaying of the All Blacks, the Irish return to Soldier Field for a somewhat lower key clash.

With the likes of Johnny Sexton, Rob Kearney, Keith Earls, Conor Murray and Robbie Henshaw left at home, Schmidt will get a look at some of his fringe men.

Joey Carbery starts at out-half with Luke McGrath named at scrum-half. Jordan Larmour is named at full-back for his first international start.

Andrew Conway and Jacob Stockdale occupy the wing positions, with a centre partnership of Garry Ringrose and Bundee Aki.

Niall Scannell, Jack McGrath and Andrew Porter make up the front row, while Tadgh Beirne - also making a first Ireland start - has Quinn Roux for company in the second row.

Ruddock, Josh van fer Flier and Jack Cionan complete t he pack.

Tadhg Furlong and James Ryan both travelled to the States but neither are in the matchday squad.
